Final thoughts…leaving Egypt

As I’m sitting in the airport waiting to board my first flight home I’m thinking of all the people I said good bye to today.  Some people I will see again very shortly, others I will see in a few months from now and others I may not see again.  To be very honest with you I didn’t think it was going to be this hard.  I did not move to Egypt with the intention of building such strong lifelong friendships.  I knew I would make friends but didn’t realize that it would be to this degree.  I also did not think it would be this hard to leave.  In reality though, this is the life of an international teacher.  Most contracts are two years and some people stay longer while others move on after the two years is over.  I am lucky enough to have three friends accompany me to my new school in Bahrain so I am more than blessed in that way but there are still many that are staying in Egypt as well as others that are moving to a new place themselves.  I like to think of it as new places to visit and in reality I know that the important friendships are strong so we don’t have to talk everyday but when we do talk it’s like no time has passed at all.

I’m a believer in that everyone comes into our lives for a reason.  I am thankful for all of the people that I have met from my time in Egypt.  I have grown so much as a person and teacher since coming to Egypt that I am forever grateful for this experience – the good, the bad, the ugly and even the stuff people will never believe that really happened.  Only in Egypt 🙂
